AR-App: kARtka z Synagogą

The project kARtka z Synagogą is an attempt to address the topic of destroyed Jewish architecture on an emotional level in a way that is effective in reaching the public. Synagogues reconstructed at the AI MAINZ in third-party funded projects and in teaching have been selected for this form of raising awareness of Europe's lost Jewish cultural heritage. The project takes up the well-tried motif of the analogue postcard and combines it with augmented reality technology to virtually restore the synagogue on a mapped floor plan. The postcard, as a carrier of memory, can be sent to friends, family and anyone interested, and can build a new approach to the lost cultural heritage. The first postcard was presented at the memorial service in the synagogue Unterm Weißen Storch in Breslau/Wrocław (Poland) on 09.11.2018. The AR application was presented to the public and the media. In cooperation with the Bente Kahan Foundation, 1,000 postcards from off-set printing were distributed among the numerous participants of the festivities. The project is to be continued at AI MAINZ in cooperation with various partners, adding more postcards in the years to come.
